Mental Clutter

This painting is a study of my friend’s closet and the theme was “mental clutter”. This piece was intended to encapsulate the idea of packing things away in your closet and forgetting about them. Whether it is a physical closet or a mental closet, we all have clutter we may have forgotten about or even intentionally stored it away, and by doing that we can lose out on the memories made by not embracing all the good and the bad. The spiders represent fear, real or perhaps irrational, and the excuse to continue avoiding unpacking all the clutter we contain, as it may just be too scary or intense to face it all head on.
